Although his expressive and receptive speech has improved through years of therapy and home-based collaboration: His limited speech poses a significant threat to his ability to communicate, if ever separated from his caregivers. The increasing cases of kids with autism going missing in the news have had me particularly on edge since last year, like any other mom watching the 3-month-long search for Avonte. I was heartbroken when his body was discovered, completely shaken by the depth of his family’s loss. I started to research tracking options online to keep my son safe and keep me empowered with the real-time knowledge of his whereabouts during the day, as well as the ability to monitor the manner in which his teachers and caretakers interact with him when in their care.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]I came across bracelets with parents’ phone numbers and other bracelet ID services connected to response teams but I chose a particular service because, unlike the other options I found, it enables me to: locate my son with real-time GPS locator technology and listen in to ensure that he is being properly cared-for. The solution was specifically created for kids with special needs, and designed with our kids’ sensory challenges and obsessive behaviors in mind.

I use a guardian system made by a company called AngelSense. I found it comforting that the co-founder, Doron Somer, is actually the father of a 17-year-old boy with autism and very emotionally vested in the creation of the GPS system. In addition, the customer support team is composed of mothers of children with autism who actually use the system for their own kids!

AngelSense has provided me with the ability to locate my son at any time, even in the densely crowded landscape of New York City. I use the diary feature to make sure Jaeden arrives at school safely and use the listen-in feature every day to hear his interaction with his teachers and friends at school. Once he’s home, we go over the diary together and I show him the Google map pictures of where he’s been that day; it’s a special time where we talk about his day together.

The use of the AngelSense system has empowered both my son and I, and I’m so touched by its benefits that I now act as a parent advisor, to pay it forward to other parents of children with autism looking for an additional way to watch over and engage their little ones. I am forever grateful for the quality service that Doron and his team have made available to our family and hope to touch other families in a similar way for many years to come.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Join AngelSense Now” align=”center” link=”url:%2Fjoin%2F||”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
